How do people feel about how easy it is to be "profiled" at answers.?

Have you noticed that all you need to do to learn more about a person here at Epinions is to look at their profile and then glance at the questions they have asked? The questions we ask here tell the world a whole lot more about us than our Myspace profiles -- which can be faked and tweaked.

I don't mean to sound paranoid but when we read the novel 1984 we are appalled by the invasions of privacy -- and yet in real life we are simply willing to post all of our inner most thoughts here and literally have zero privacy.

Example: Someone mentions an interesting political perspective here. I'm curious about them and click their profile. I click their questions asked link. I find out that one question might have been interesting but the rest of their account is interested in cosmetics or tamagatchi or erectile dysfunction. Stupid stuff or stuff that is far too personal.

Even in this question I can be profiled as a paranoid curmudgeon, do-gooder. How much privacy will we sacrifice?

This is a real concern. You should be careful to give out personally identifiable information. I immediately expect that any information I post online will be viewable by anyone in my real-life and anyone decades from now. In other words, be responsible and do not post things on the internet that you don't want the world to know.

Many people don't think this is a threat; try looking at Paterva Maltego and see if you still feel that way. Go ahead and see what it already knows about you by entering a phrase.
