Image copyright question?
Okay, I am making my own website and it has stuff for myspace.
Okay, I know on other websites they use logos from sports teams and clothing brands and stuff to make layouts, icons, glitters, etc.
So I was wondering what I have to write so I dont get in trouble by the brand.
Like on most of the websites they just dont write anything
or they write something like no copyright infringement (SP) intended.
So what is the correct way, so I dont get sued or something?
Image copyright question?I wouldnt think so..just make sure to give credit to whoever the image belongs to
Image copyright question? The law allows for what is called "fair use," which is the use of copyrighted material for educational use (schools, research, quotations, etc.) or limited private, personal use. If you are only using the images in question for a MySpace page, then you shouldn't have any problems. But if you use them on a website that generates commercial revenue, then you will need the proper permissions.
Image copyright question? My wife had to use some copyrighted images to build a web page for one of her school projects. She credited them right below each image with a link to the site from which it was obtained.
However, that did fall under the "Fair Use" exemption granted for educational uses.
As far as using a copyrighted image for a Myspace page, there is no exemption for personal use as stated by someone above.
For all practical purposes, you probably can get away with using the images, but a citation of the originating page would be a courtesy. If you are caught, myspace will delete the pictures as soon as they are informed. A company whose work you have taken may sue you, but the normal procedure is to send a cease and desist letter, and you would the have to take the pictures down.
Please don't be like Homer Simpson, and throw all manner of unrelated stuff up on a page. Readers appreciate being able to read the text against a clean background. And random pictures pasted willy-nilly all over the page just don't hack it anymore.
