HELP!!! No sound icon in system tray!!?

Ok, I have this really annoying problem. There is no sound icon in my system tray. I have Windows XP, but the whole thing has disappeared. Here's the funny part though... I can still play music through Windows Media Player and hear it fine through the speakers. Whenever I am on the web though, I can't hear any sounds. Songs on myspace or videos on youtube are without sound! This is very frustrating! Any ideas without doing a system restore?

Check to make sure that it isn't hidden if you are refering to the notification area by the clock:

- right click on an empty area of your taskbar,

- unlock the Taskbar,

- select Properties,

- select the Taskbar tab,

- tick or untick the boxes in the Notification Area to get what you want,

- then click on Customize and you will see a list.

- click on each one you want displayed and choose the appropriate option from the droplist.

After making your selection, click OK, then Apply, then OK. Relock your taskbar afterwards and reboot (a reboot is sometimes required to make the changes stick).

Edit - You are correct, I totally missed the part about no internet volume. You can still use the steps above regarding placing the sound icon in the Notification area if it isn't appearing afterwards so I left there.

If you are using IE, go to Tools, Internet Options, Advanced tab and scroll down to the Multimedia section. Ensure that all the appropriate boxes are ticked including playing sound in webpages. If you make any changes, click Apply, then click OK. Close all browser windows then try again. It may take a reboot for the settings to complete the change.

go to control panel click find icon for sounds click make sure none are muted also try reinstalling drivers can get from website same name as sound card

first go to the start menu and click on control panel. then click on sounds and audio devices.Check to make sure the volume is on and then check the box ot put the volume icon in the taskbar. GL
