It is nothing new. Nigeria and other parts of Africa have been doing it for a LONG time. Though as with all scams it is not always in 1 location.

Anyways, using real people to talk to you (no "bots") to actually get a little friendly. Then after 1-2 hours of chatting, they start to bring on the waterworks.

I personally have had the:

My parents recently died and need money for the funeral.

I am only visiting family in africa and trying to get back to US for (school, work, etc)

MY personal fave was one who said she was an American in Africa on a business deal (she was a "independent business woman" selling jewelry) and was just robbed so she couldn't afford the hotel room, lost her plane ticket, and so on.

In most cases, they say they are in Nigeria. At that point, terminate the conversation. (Don't bother reporting them, the ID will likely be deleted within a few hours or days anyways)

Just report them as SPAM by either flagging their email or friend request... or report their page by clicking "Report Abuse" at the bottom...
