I think you should go ahead and ask him if he is attracted to men. Dont say that you are gay though, it could scare him.

It's often impossible to tell what your sexual preference really is until your hormones kick in. So you could have started out being attracted to girls because that's what you thought was "normal" and that's what you did. But then the hormones kicked in and that's when the "real deal" attraction started. You might be gay, you might be straight, you might be bi. Too early to tell.

Male/male experimentation is around 80% - that's pretty high and completely normal by any measure.
