Are today's young people less concerned with privacy?
You see young people (teens, 20-somethings) sharing the most INTIMATE details about their lives on places like MySpace, etc., which would have appalled my generation (and, even those of us who weren't Hippies, were NOT shy or prudish about expressing ourselves). But we had a sense of privacy, like not asking what religion you were, how much money you made, or details about your sex life or personal stuff. Cripes, we didn't tell our own families most things, so why tell people we barely knew?
So...A) ARE kids more eager to share intimate details with total strangers? And B) WHY?! I admit, I don't get it! Is it like Andy Warhol's prediction that everyone would be "famous for 15 minutes" or what?
Are today's young people less concerned with privacy?i think they are definitely less concerned with privacy, i am one of "them" haha i think we are just more liberated in that sense, in my particular case i feel that it is not a matter of privilege to know things about me, i think for me it is a sign of humility that i would pretty readily fill you in on just about anything in my life you might want to know.and i guess in the back of my mind its an honer to me if you WANT to know private information and i suppose in some way i feel that that is a way for you to understand me better ,understanding another person well has its benifits, the biggest of which (that i can think of readily) would be to bring people closer together , if you know me well and know what i do with my time and what i think of things ect.. you will be more likely to be compassionate to me and nice?....i dunno, we live in an era of information, information is the new cool thing, this is why answers is so popular and myspace, in your time it was ...i dunno, protest and liberation, ending old crappy ways of doing and thinking and coming up with other possibilities, and now its all about information, understanding what makes things tic, the whys and hows of everything including people.... im goin off here i guess haha, i think you asked an awesome question! to sum it up i would say its just the currant swing of American culture, i dont know if its a good thing or a bad thing but its just how it is right now.
