Can I say he's my friend, or is he still an acquaintance?
I have known of this guy I like at my church for over a year (he's on the church music team and in the youth group band) but only started talking to him about 6 months ago. He's 16 and I'm 15. Since then, we talk pretty often on Myspace--half the time I start the conversation, half the time he starts it. I'm new to youth group and when I don't have a group to be in, sometimes he asks me if I want to be in his. We have a ton in common, especially important things like shared beliefs, but just enough differences (interests, etc.) to make the relationship interesting. We're both into politics and have the same views, so we have interesting conversations, but other times we have funny conversations. I feel like we have an incredible connection--the only problem is that we have only talked a few times in person because we're both socially inept, but he always says hi when he sees me. Is he my friend, or still only an acquaintance since we've never hung out?
Can I say he's my friend, or is he still an acquaintance? The internet has put an interesting spin on our social roles in the real world. I would say acquaintance only because you guys have not hung out too much. Also does he confide in you? Does he tell you some of his concerns personal or otherwise? If so then you are more in the friend side but not quite there. Invite him to go hang with some of your friends; see how that goes.
